Installation
Plug & play with correct BMW radio connector. It first appeared in 1990 with the start of the E31 and E36 production and in 1991 made it also to all of the other BMW models (including E30):
Flush-mount radio brackets for E24 & E30 are also available (requires slight modification)
Compared to the Reverse RDS, this radio additionally offers:
- CD-changer input (not compatible with newer i-bus CD changers)
- Dolby Sound for the cassette player
- Improved sound processing with slightly more bass
- Three additional programmable pixel blocks at the corners of the display
- 100 ms faster display refresh rate (text scrolls faster)
- Multi-function steering wheel control integration
Condition & reliability
– The volume regulator encoder has been proactively replaced – a common failure point on these units – to ensure reliable long-term operation.
– Front panel is fully refurbished: imperfections corrected, matte clear coat applied, worn buttons replaced if needed, and a matte protective display foil added.
Please note: each time the radio is switched on, the cassette mechanism performs a brief self-check. Due to the age of these 1990s components, this can eventually lead to a short rattling sound (see video). The units I sell do not currently have this issue, but long-term behavior cannot be guaranteed:

Radios original user manual and installation guide
I guarantee that the radio works correctly upon arrival. As these are original BMW units from the 1990s, the 1-year warranty applies to the Bluetooth-related components.
Custom display text(s) for the Bluetooth mode:
When music is selected, the song information appears on the line C. After it has finished scrolling, the radio must display some static text, which remains on the screen until the next track begins.
You can use up to four static text lines: A, B, C and D. Any of these lines can also be left completely empty. Each letter and each space counts as one character:
A – max. 4 symbols
B – max. 3 symbols
C – max. 8 symbols
D – max. 2 symbols
There can also be your own scrolling texts on the line C (e.g. BLUETOOTH, The Ultimate Driving Machine, etc.), which appears once when the radio is switched to the Bluetooth mode. This has no length limit. After that must come some static text.
